As a crime novelist I have published three books independently (Wicked Games 2013, Without Rules 2018 and All Down the Line 2020).
A Master of Arts, Novel Writing, from the University of Manchester, I think crime fiction has a duty to try and educate and as well as entertain. The memorable books are the ones you’re still thinking about 48-hours after you finished reading.
Set in my former home city of Manchester, All Down The Line sees a PR man and restauranteur risk his life to force the city’s nastiest gangster to break his own wall of silence to discover the chilling truth about the death of his daughter twenty years ago.
All Down The Line is an interrupted noir love story set in Manchester. How does a bereaved father convince Manchester’s nastiest and most ruthless gangster to spill the beans about the death of his daughter and an attack on his fiancée that leaves her fighting for her life? And if he succeeds, how does he decide what revenge looks like?
All Down The Line is my noirish tribute to Manchester, where I had over 35 top years living in Prestwich, prior to moving to Northumberland to live by the sea.
As Ian Brown of the Stone Roses famously said, ‘Manchester has everything, except a beach.’ When I arrived in the city, Castlefield was an industrial wasteland. Now it is overlooked by Manc-hatten’s giant skyscrapers that have transformed the city’s skyline.
What is progress for some, might be a step too far others.
